HANDS ON EDUCATION
THE FOUR PILLARS
Just like a building, preservation needs four strong pillars. AiP embodies the philosophy put forth by the European Heritage Hub on education and empowerment of the heritage sector, including students and young professionals in the field of building conservation. The principle is to foster meaningful opportunities in the following 4 areas:
EDUCATION
AiP offers internships and opportunities for students to gain valuable hands-on experience in preservation planning and implementation. We will work with your university program to meet the requirements needed for you to earn credit.
TRAINING
Hands-on training is provided by an expert at each project site. The expert teaches preservation techniques and leads the work as volunteers apply their newly learned skills. One-on-one instruction and guidance are available for all project volunteers, better known as Jammers.
VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering provides essential support for the unmet needs of many communities. The volunteer also benefits through increased self-esteem, skill development and valuable experience that can advance professional goals. Volunteering fosters empathy, providing a sense of purpose that can lead to a healthier, more connected life.
AiP Jammers provide skilled labor at no cost to the project site thus allowing for the completion of vital preservation projects.
NETWORKING
Every Adventures in Preservation project is a networking opportunity. Project sessions bring together a diverse group of students, professionals and the interested public from a variety of fields.
AiP is launching several initiatives to enhance your networking possibilities: a Lecture Series, Patreon, and a newsletter introducing a variety of people in the field of historic preservation, also called building conservation.
AIP SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Our dynamic volunteers tackle urgent preservation needs each year. Many others let us know they would like to join the hands-on work, but the project fee is beyond their means.
We would like to give everyone, regardless of income level, the opportunity to join a team of AiP Jammers! You can help resolve this problem by donating to the AiP Scholarship Fund.
UNIVERSITY COLLABORATIONS
Every university program is different. We invite any professor or department head to contact us directly about collaboration. We will personalize an AiP project experience to meet your student’s needs. Hands-on experience at a building conservation site is an invaluable addition to any student’s university education.
