Our Mission
Our Mission
Safeguarding architectural heritage while providing an experience-based education that fosters cultural discovery and personal growth.
IN ACTION
Adventures in Preservation connects volunteers with communities globally to preserve historic structures through hands-on conservation. You’ll learn and apply new skills, engage with the community, and explore remarkable cultural heritage. Together we protect the knowledge and stories defining the people and place.
oUR STORY
Adventures in Preservation was founded in 2001 by two women with a great love of historic buildings and a strong desire to travel and understand the world. Projects began at several sites in the US, and as word spread, requests for help began to pour in from around the world. This underscored the great potential of involving volunteers in the process of building conservation.
For 25 years, our motivated volunteers, called Jammers, have worked under the guidance of preservation experts, to apply their newly learned skills at a project site. They continue to make it possible for communities to take on preservation projects that might otherwise be impossible. AiP Jammers are passionate about saving the world's architectural heritage, which embodies the history, culture and natural materials of each location.
AiP is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that carefully vets our projects to comply with and enhance our model.

Preservation + Archaeology
Preservation projects focus on the conservation of a building and its original materials. Understanding the life of the building can be enhanced by including archaeology in the project. Artifacts recovered add a wealth of information about the building’s story over the years. A partnership between preservation and archaeology not only increases knowledge about the site but also increase public engagement and enhances the Jammers’ educational experience.
Adventures in Preservation has taken advantage of such collaborations since 2009, partnering with the Fairfield Foundation of Virginia. We are now pursuing opportunities at archaeology sites in Armenia. We will continue to include such opportunities to provide you with the most fulfilling experience possible.
