ROSEWELL PLANTATION
GLOUCESTER COUNTY, VIRGINIA USA

Rosewell Ruin

Dates: October 11-17, 2026
Cost: $1480/week per person for double room

Learn masonry stabilization skills as well as archaeology excavating techniques to uncover the story of a Colonial-era plantation manor house and the lives of enslaved Africans.

Rosewell mansion, built in 1725, was one of the largest American houses of the colonial period, and built to rival the Governor’s Palace. It played a major role in Virginia history until in 1916 fire broke out destroying the mansion. On its 300th anniversary, the remains of the house are a largely undisturbed historic ruin.

The structure serves as a powerful symbol of the lives once lived in the shadows of Rosewell – particularly the enslaved people who built and sustained it. They were brought to Rosewell against their will, separated from families and communities, and forced into labor for the benefit of its landowners. It provides an opportunity to remember, reflect and teach.

The property is now managed by The Fairfield Foundation, AiP’s long-time partner.

DUNANS CASTLE & BRIDGE
GLENDARUEL, ARGYLL, SCOTLAND

Conservation of Telford’s Great Arch

Dates: April 10-24, 2027
Cost: $1990/week per person for double room

Learn hands-on conservation skills as you repoint bridge stonework in the central arch of the Telford bridge and support sustainable tourism in Scotland.

The woodland fairies are celebrating and so are we! Dunans’ native woodland has been planted, and that project provided funds for completion of work on the 1815 Thomas Telford bridge. AiP jammers, along with enthusiasts from Scottish organizations, will join forces for this final phase – conservation of the Great Arch. We’ll be led by our amazing instructor, Eland Stuart, learning the value of lime as we perfect the art of repointing.

Come and be part of this amazing story, which started in 2018. What a celebration we’ll have when the Great Arch – and the entire bridge – are completed!
